One step at a time

Knitting has been a little slow over the last day or two because I have a recital tomorrow. I play regularly for various singing teachers’ students and have been coaching one girl most of the year in preparation for her end-of-degree recital. Certain things still aren’t perfect. However, it’s been a great experience and one that has made me eager to study hard and get some hard and fast qualifications in accompaniment.

Here’s the knitting! I got the body and one sleeve finished on Pioneer. All that remains is the other sleeve and the crochet neck border. I tried it on the other night and I just love how it fits! This will be a lovely snug undertop for those damp winter days.

I have some crafty plans for the upcoming weekend. Prompted by the fabulous weather we’ve been having, I dug out a cheap wrap-around skirt I bought in Thailand last year. I love the shape of it so much that I think I will use it as a template to make another. It is very simple: three panels and a tie on the band at each side. I think I might leave off the ties and just put a small square of velcro on each end instead. I find that ties bulk up a lot under tshirts and tops, and tend to come undone if you’re carrying a bag! I have also returned to an old intention of mine – to embroider some tea-towels. I bought quite a lot of heavy cotton in Murphy-Sheehy’s before Christmas and never got around to cutting it out and embroidering it. Sewing always seems to make much more sense in hot weather, doesn’t it? I get lots of inspiration from here – it’s what got me into embroidery in the first place!

On a completely different tack (*chuckle*), I remembered The Streets of Galway 8k race is on in about two months. I didn’t run it last year but I think I’ll do it this time round. It’s a great little race, it winds through the streets in the city centre then comes out in Salthill and you run along the Prom to the finish line. I know some people just did the Mini-Marathon last weekend so if you’re interested in something similar, this is a nice fun-run alternative.
