Well, it’s not a raspberry beret, but it’s still a beret (in the making)…
Perhaps I took my own resolution of knitting only from the stash a bit literally by knitting something out of the new Colinette mohair! The pattern is my own, but magicked up through some magical feat of memory of a white beret I knit about a year and a half ago. I started off with a K2, P2 rib, and am now knitting straight for about 2 inches. Then I plan to increase by a third around, knit straight for another two inches, then decrease to keep the top flat. If it works out ok, I’ll put up the pattern! I have doubts about my own Dodgy Maths ™ – I used 2pieR to get numbers and now have a number in my notebook (6, in case you were curious) and I have no idea what it stands for. I think it’s for the rate of decrease, ie, 6 stitches per decrease round. I’ll let you know!
Today was a bit of an also-ran. But at least it also ran with a new sock!
Once I got past the heel, this flew along. The heel flap was longer than I usually make, so the gusset was a little larger. By the time I had finished the gusset decreases, I only had to knit an inch straight before the toe shaping (the best part). Hopefully the second sock will fly along just as quickly!
My mum, also a non-wheat eater, bought some Rice Flour before Christmas and this morning I decided to make some scones out of it. It was an interesting experiment! I learned some lessons… such as not rolling the dough out so flat because they didn’t rise at all, and don’t expect them to go brown. Such are the thrills of gluten free baking! Still, a good cuppa will make even a flat scone taste good.
The Hedera sock looks sooo neat! I noticed an extra long heel, too. And I figured out the heel flap deal – I have flat feet, so if I use a heel flap, it should be relatively short. My pair of Hedera was made for someone with ballet arches or something.
I would definitely knit Hedera again, but Cookie keeps coming up with more patterns, so I have to get through those first. I want some Monkey socks! And Baudelaires! Not to mention the Bayerische socks I’m working on right now, that are put away and out of sight so I get cracking on the Deadline Projects (ski trip knitting for my mom and sister).
