Happy Solstice!

Ah! It does one’s bod good to have a clear, sunny day right before the winter solstice. I am positively giddy from the surge of vitamin D! It’s only going to last for another hour so I took my opportunity and got some reasonably well-lit snaps. You know, it might actually be worth buying a day-light bulb.

Anyway, the blue cotton lace project I showed you last time was just a swatch. I’ve made my plans and I’m already off on the front piece. And yes, after all the spouting I did about how knitting in the round is best, I’m knitting this flat. This is partially because I think cotton has a tendency to go quite floppy, even with seams, and also because I sort of like purling from time to time (but not when it’s ribbing). Ah, the quirks of knitters.

Look what I found! I had intended the cotton glace you see above for Rusted Root, but my gauge was way off – it is too skinny a yarn to use. One achaeological dig through the stash later and we have enough light blue cotton heavy enough for the pattern. Huzzah!

I used this yarn (Tivoli Cruise) to knit my mum this for her last birthday and it’s really holding up well. At just e5 a ball and 210m per ball, I only need three for the project, which is pretty good going.

On my way through the stratae of stash, I also came up with that cranberry KSH I was on about. Yesterday, when I was in town, I got some beads to match for Butterfly. Beads and Crystals on the Quays are having a sale on big tubes of beads – I got mine for just e3.50 and they were marked down from e12.50!

Big problems with the Clapotis: I’m nearly out of yarn and I have another decrease repeat and the end bit to do yet. I’m going to have to rip it right back to the straight repeats and take one out. Bah! Yesterday was a terrible day overall, despite the beads and the joyful finding of stash, because I ended up not only being too tired to do some much-needed practice, but too tired to knit also. However, it’s an ill wind that blows no luck because even though I was in bad form, I discovered that I really can knit and read at the same time. I was knitting whilst reading my RSS page and became so engrossed in something that I knit through a whole page. It’s the magic of Christmas, I tells ya.
