May outfit

Sorry there hasn’t been one of these in a while. Things were a bit hectic in school since Easter was so late. I have a bank holiday to make up tomorrow but other than that, I’m pretty much finished teaching for the year. Last summer was such a novelty as it was my first holiday where I knew for certain I was going to have work in September! In talking with other friends who are also on contract work or self-employed, the general consensus is that there’s no fun in a holiday with no end…

Anyway! Here’s an outfit I made last month.

The skirt is another Grainline Moss Mini made in denim I got from the remnant basket in The Cloth Shop. I think it cost me under a tenner and there’s a good bit left. I have a longer denim skirt that I wear all the time and just wanted a shorter one. I think they look nice with tights and boots in the winter. This, however, is as mini as you’ll get me to go.

The top is also a Grainline pattern, the Scout woven tee. I have modifications that I like to use on this – I take in the side seams a good bit, I put on a curved hem and I raise the neckline loads.

I really like the fabric of the top! It’s a light quilting cotton I got online using a gift voucher Alb gave me for Christmas. I had a reasonable amount left over do I used it for the pockets…

…and the binding for the hem!

I have been enjoying everyone’s wrap-up of Me Made May. I got bored taking the daily photos, but I still competed the challenge of wearing handmade every day. If I’m just at home practising, I usually wear the same sort of thing. It did alert me to something that has been in the back of my mind – maybe I should make more dresses. I only have a few winter ones, and I wear them all the time. I went through my patterns and made a plan. I have some fun summer sewing in store for sure!

  1. They look so nice. As my husband says of my hand-made things, it’s as good as you’d get in a shop! (He thinks it’s funny!)
